About Marty
Marty Weybret is the publisher (newspaper title that means head honcho) of the Lodi News-Sentinel and Lodinews.com. The Lodi News-Sentinel corporation is owned by his family, which includes his father, Fred, who is the chairman of the company.
Marty is a graduate of Lodi High School (Class of ’69) and San José State University where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism in 1975. He has worked as an intern for United Press International, a reporter for the Tracy Press and a copy editor for The News, an English language newspaper in Mexico City.
He joined the News-Sentinel as its business manager in 1979, became managing editor in 1985 and publisher in 1998.
He married Christi Kennedy Weybret in 1984. They have two sons, Rob and Mike. Hobbies besides being a Dad: bicycle touring, skiing, reading, stock market, wine, a modest boat and a little bit of other outdoor stuff.
The main obstacles to Marty’s pursuing a longer wish list of hobbies are his family and his job. Loving these keeps a him from making big mistakes like owning an immodest boat, playing serious chess or sub-100 golf.
