We've had a promotion and a new hire here, and a related reassignment of beats. Like the staff at many papers, our reporters are now stretching to handle multiple coverage areas. I guess it relfects that cliche: Doing more with less. But our staff here is passionate about journalism and very hard-working.  I'm excited about these changes and how our staff has responded.

Here is a summary:

Ross Farrow, the senior reporter here, is a can-do utility player. He's taking over coverage of Lodi Unified School District. Yet he also handle business and real estate news. He's our lead reporter for political coverage. Plus, he'll continue coverage of outlying communities, including Lockeford, Clements and Thornton. He may be contacted at

Sara Jane Pohlman is taking over coverage of Lodi city hall from Maggie Creamer, who has accepted a new position coordinating a set of weekly publications we're doing for the San Francisco Chronicle. (Maggie is off to a flying start managing these pubs, which will be the subject of a future post soon on this blog.) Sara Jane will continue covering water and agricultural, including viticulture, and she is our Newsy Neighbors and newsroom social media coordinator as well. Her email:

Kris Anderson is the newcomer. He's a University of Oregon grad who worked on a newspaper in Oregon before joining us a several weeks ago. Kris is covering Lodi police and fire, Galt police, local courts, and San Joaquin County. Email for Kris:

Jennifer Bonnett covers city government, schools and business in Galt. She'll help out on Galt police, too, from time to time. Her overall role is not changing. Email:

Lauren Nelson continues as Lodi Living editor. She is also taking over coverage of wineries and wine-based events and entertainment. Email:

Pam Bauserman, our Panorama editor, continues coordinating our Pano feature pages. Email:

Machelle Homer, our newsroom assistant, continues to contribute to Panorama, oversees letters to the editor, and also helps with business coverage and page design. Her email is:

We've also clarified coverage of Lodi Parks and Recreation, which will be handled by sportswriter Ed Yevelev at

Our main newsroom number, by the way, is 369-7035.
