Air Force firefighter Rob Weybret and a team from his base in Germany are at the Firefighter Combat Challenge World Competition in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Using your blog to brag about your son is probably poor form, but Rob and the rest of the Ramstein Firefighter Challenge Team is part of a pretty good show streaming live on the Internet right now.

The firefighter combat challenge is a sport with pretty good spectator appeal. It's a series of five physically demanding firefighting skills arranged like a competitive obstacle course.

For the rest of this week, it will be http://www.livestream.com/firefightercombatchallenge" target= "_self">webcast live during the day.

To figure out when Rob, a Lodi High grad, competes next, click on this link to the Firefighter Challenge website — look for "Run Order" files under "Hot News." Then go to the live streaming video link above. I'm not sure how the Ramstein team is doing, but their times in the tandem competition today (Wednesday, Nov. 16) sound respectable to me.

Justin King and Jeremy Noah (Team KMC 1) had the team's best time in the tandem competition today — 1:30:05. Rob and Don Roque (Team KMC 2) were close with 1:35:31. Jeremy Caldwell and Sascha Resch (Team KMC 3) ran the course in 2:03:16.

Rob called home Tuesday and said he was proud of his individual performance, a personal best, but this is the world championship and the top guys are in another league.

What I heard was an enthusiastic competitor having the time of his life.
