A very positive meeting Tuesday night, with trustees voting to work out final details for limited community access to the Tokay track.

Trustees George Neely, Joe Nava and Ralph Womack, with district staff members, are forming a working group to hammer out schedules and logistics.

It's a very encouraging step.

The discussion focused on the best way to balance community use with considerations of student safety and overall liability.

The track, largely, has been open to the community for 30 years without major issues. Authorities at Tokay padlocked the facility after the  Stockton Stars track club held a practice there on June 4. District staff contended the club did not have permission to use the track.

I've walked and jogged the track for many years with my wife, Judy. So have many, many  members of the community.

In recent weeks, I've developed great respect for the district trustees, who seem both responsive and responsible. They will work out a fair compromise.

I am looking forward to getting back on the track; I know many others are, too.

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
