We're recruiting for a reporter position, so I have been sifting through resumes and cover letters.
One stood out as perhaps the most creative I have ever seen: A take on "Stuck in Lodi," by CCR.
I've conversed with the fellow who wrote this. Alas, because of geography and logistical concerns, he is not in the running for the job.
But he said it would be OK for me to share it with our readers, and I couldn't resist posting this:
Dear Rich,
Just about a minute ago
I set out on the Net
Seeking my fame and fortune
Or any scraps I could get
Things were bad, they got worse
Guess you know the tune
Oh Lord, where is Lodi again?
Seems just about forever
Since I last went to work
Now I'm 50 years old
a failure and a jerk
I'm out of time and money
and down to my last friend
Oh Rich, where is Lodi again?
Once I had big dreams
Thought I was on my way
Now I'm out of unemployment
Could really use some work today
I'll come into town on my knees
Do anything you tell me to
Can you tell me how to get to Lodi again?
If I only had a dollar
For every word I wrote
And every self-important ass
That I was forced to quote
You know I´d build a big old house
And buy me some new friends
And I'd never think of going to Lodi again
Oh Lord, I'd never think about Lodi again.
