Lauren Nelson, our super-talented Lodi Living editor, has left us for a new job. That’s created other changes: The promotion of Sara Jane Pohlman, our former city hall reporter, to Lodi Living editor, and the hiring of Todd Wilson as our new city hall reporter.

Lauren was a wonderfully witty and creative presence here. She can do it all: Her stories could swerve from light and bright to wonderfully poignant. Her story on Jeff Kooyman, one of our paper carriers who has persevered despite some major challenges, was a poetic piece of human interest writing and a major award winner. Lauren has a rare gift for color, photography and design. Under her guidance, Lodi Living was recognized as the top lifestyle section in the state for papers our size by the California Publishers Association. She has joined Lodi Health as social media coordinator.

Stepping up to the Lodi Living editor spot is Sara Jane, a Lodi High and Sonoma State grad who previously covered schools and city government for us. She is also our Saturday general assignment reporter. Sara has a real gift for feature writing. Her writing is funny, descriptive and a bit unpredictable — in a totally good way. She seems an absolute natural for this role.

Joining us to cover city hall and related beats is Todd Wilson. Todd is a graduate of Sacramento State, where he was editor-in-chief of the State Hornet. He earned a master’s from the University of Illinois, did an internship with the Chicago Tribune, and most recently was statehouse reporter for the Daily Press in Newport News, Va.

Todd comes to us with solid experience, strong analytical ability, and a zest for government reporting.

We all miss Lauren. A lot.

But with Sara stepping up and Todd joining us, we continue to have some bright lights in our newsroom.
