The News-Sentinel asked: What is your favorite religious or spiritual quote? Why do you like it?

“You can safely assume you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.” — Anne Lamott

Crossing the two to three thousand year old bridge from today to the biblical era is a risky business, fraught with difficulties, most of which are invisible to today’s Bible readers. Consequently, too often we find in the Bible what we want to find, not the original intent, so deeply obscured by our cultural understandings which we overlay on the Bible.

Rev. Steve Kindle of Stockton is the author of “Marriage Equality: Why same-sex marriage is good for the church and nation.”

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
