I just read a startling post from a friend on Facebook about a scary event that occurred today. In a nice, quiet Woodbridge neighborhood, an intruder walked through an unlocked door into a home where there were two teenagers.

The kids heard the perpetrator and contacted their parents, who in turn contacted a neighbor immediately. For unknown reasons, the intruder left but then returned in a vehicle driving by the home two more times. The neighbor witnessed this and contacted the Sheriff Department.

Fortunately, patrol units were in the area and one unit was able to pursue the vehicle. The chase reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour and then ceased due to safety. In the end, the vehicle lost control and crashed in Lodi where three suspects were apprehended.

How many times have you been home with unlocked doors? How often have your loved ones been home with doors unsecured? For me, it's more times than I would like to think about. We have a great community, but crime lurks on every block in every town. Be aware and stay safe.
