When trustees get down to business, they sure mean it.

The members of the Lodi Unified School District set a record on Tuesday. At 14 minutes, the board concluded the shortest meeting they have ever conducted with this particular group of trustees. It's been a running joke for a few months, but I think this one is the true winner.

They sailed through notes on the closed meeting, a brief consent agenda, and minimal comments from three trustees.

LEA president Jeff Johnston was overcome by laughter when the board opened the meeting to public comment. There was no public present to comment.

While that left me with little fodder for page one, I was grateful not to endure a four hour marathon meeting at the end of a warm day.

Board president Ron Heberle promised that wouldn’t be the case at the next meeting.

“Bring a lunch,” he advised. Gulp.
