In the front yard of a Lodi neighborhood sits a homemade “rack.” (That would be the term circulation uses to describe the portable stands around town that hold newspapers or other print material.) But there were no newspapers or glossies inside this rack, which was particularly elaborate including its own roof, complete with shingles.

To my surprise, it was filled with books! And they were good books!

One Lodi family has created its own “Neighborhood Library." A simple sign inside encourages neighbors to take a book and leave a book.

What a GREAT idea! I love the unique approach to promoting literacy that this family has taken. I hope to see more front yard “racks” throughout Lodi!
