Learning Link is pleased to announce the 2013 Classroom Hero for Secondary Education, Ryan Heinrich from Tokay High School. After the judges reviewed nominations for 75 other secondary teachers, Heinrich forged ahead due to comments like these:

"The difference between a good teacher and a brilliant teacher is effort, their level of devotion to their students and to teaching the subject they are passionate about. Instead of trudging through the required curriculum, concerned only with meeting state standards, they approach each day with a unique optimism and determination to help each of their students achieve their full potential. They devote countless hours to transform what would otherwise be a dry, monotonous lesson into one that gets students involved and interested. They have the answer for "Why do even need to learn this?" and "When will this be used in real life?" And a prime example of such a teacher is Mr. Heinrich." -Tokay High School student

"He once laid on a bed of nails to show hoe matter is displaced." -Tokay High student

"He makes it (physics) easy for average students like me." -Tokay High School student

""He is rife with ambition...He keeps us entertained by excitement in his eyes." -Tokay High School student

"One of the most supportive teachers I've ever had." -Tokay High School student

"He is animated and optimistic...it is very infectious and appreciated by his students" -Tokay High School student

The nomination forms for Mr. Heinrich stated over and over how energetic, passionate, creative, selfless and inspirational he is. Students noted Heinrich's ambition to continue learning personally and his tireless efforts to help them succeed in life.

Terrific job Mr. Heinrich. Your ability to inspire is not limited to the students in your class!

I am so happy for Mr. Heinrich! As a former student, I can say that all of the compliments/comments above a really true. He really does go above and beyond to help his students and interact with them. He is not just a teacher that goes over the curriculum and goes home. He builds a relationship with them so they feel comfortable enough to go to him for help. Even though a graduated a couple years ago I still go back to Tokay and visit my favorite teachers--including him. Congrats Mr. Heinrich, you truly deserved this award.
