Teacher layoffs. Standardized test scores. Budget cuts. School-related state propositions. Reduced funding. Low student attendance.

There's a lot about these things in the newspaper, but what about the main focus of school, the students?

We'd like to celebrate more of what they're doing because, after all, there wouldn't be school without them.

Send us e-mails about what they're doing, about what successes they're accomplishing. Not sure what to share? I'll start:

Galt High and Liberty Ranch High schools are in the middle of a multi-date run of the production "Bye Bye, Birdie." It opened Thursday and will show at 7 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 15-17. Catch a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday and Nov. 18.

The show is being held in the Galt High School Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.

Feel free to add other public school events below, and check back for future posts.
