My eldest, my first born, is starting kindergarten.

He's ready. The uniforms have been purchased, as have the special treats for his lunch to be packed in his new Avengers lunch bag.

He's done three years of preschool (two days a week, then three and finally a five-day-a-week transitional kindergarten program).

The problem is, I'm the one who's not ready.

How do parents go from having their children around a lot to suddenly sending them to school all day, miles from home?

Sure, I dropped him off at preschool and only shed a few tears the first time (OK, maybe the second and third times, too), but I knew the people I was leaving him with. I haven't even met his teacher this time.

What tips do you have for parents going through the similar first-day-of-school-ever blue as I? I can't be the only one who gets choked up even thinking about sending my baby to kindergarten.

I still get choked up and she is in 4th grade! I also get choked up on the last day of school. I'm finding when it ends, it's just as emotional as when it starts.
