Powerful teaching

I am a huge fan of “out-of-the-box” teaching. Anyone can stand in front of a class and read the teacher manual, but it takes a clever approach to make material personal to students. These lessons penetrate the heart and cause students to think critically about the consequences of their choices. I applaud those who created the “Every 15 minutes” program and the schools that take advantage of this powerful experience.

It’s not often that I hear students complaining about missing a lesson (the experience is limited to upper classmen), but I heard a lot of rumbling from Lodi High’s freshmen and sophomores. The hype was real. The chatter was dramatic. The lessons were sticking. Consequently, the younger students eagerly anticipate its return in 2 years.

What did you hear from the students?

Can you imagine if we had more “out-of-the-box” teaching in all subject areas? Any ideas on this?
