Get Organized!

Clean out your backpack and create a system where nothing will be misplaced or forgotten. Go through your room and give away or donate unused items or clothing. Make a pact with yourself to have everything you need ready to go every night before school for stress free mornings.

Get Healthy!

This doesn’t necessarily mean losing weight. We live in a world of processed foods that aren’t good for us. It might be tough to cut them out altogether, but make a promise to yourself that you will do a better job of eating fresh food. Generally, anything you find around the perimeter of the grocery store will be better for you than what is in the aisles. Make a mental note of this and consider it each and every time you grab a snack. Replace high calorie drinks with water and add exercise into your week.

Be Nice!

An act of kindness goes a long way. Try to compliment one person every day. You never know what people are going through and the positive impact your simple, kind statement might bring.

Be Happy!

Happiness is a choice. Choose to look at the blessings in life rather than always noticing what you don’t have. There will always, always be someone better off and someone worse off than you. Don’t dwell. Let the past make you better, not bitter.

Help Others!

Make it a point to do something at least once a month that does not benefit you at all, but helps another person. Volunteer to feed the homeless. Donate to a shelter. Send a note of encouragement to someone you know is having a tough time. Tutor or mentor a friend. The possibilities are endless, just use what you are gifted at.

Learn Something New!

You will never discover all of your talents until you try. It could be a new sport, an instrument, a craft or a language. What are you curious about? Give it a whirl!

Rest your texting fingers and give your eyes a work out. Knowledge is one thing that no one can take from you. Embrace the resources that are available to you to learn something that you didn’t know or take a vacation of the mind by immersing yourself in a novel.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
