As a parent and a granddaughter who lost both her grandparents to lung cancer, I was disheartened to read a report released this week that claimed smoking is on the rise.

The study found the peer pressure to be cool is catapulting teens into possible years of nicotine addiction.

It reminds me of my mother telling me in the 1960s there used to be designated smoking areas at her high school (ironically the same campus I attended in the early 1990s) where the popular kids used to congregate.

Experts claim health educators haven't done enough to make smoking "not cool." What are some of your ideas, or is the public overreacting?
