This time of year with the Memorial Day and 4th of July holidays always makes me pause and reflect on how truly blessed we are to live in America.
For the past three years the Tokay High football team assists the local Lodi American Legion club on Memorial Day in adorning the burial sites of the veterans at the Lodi Cemetery with flags.
Seeing all of the hundreds of flags and the young men of Lodi scattered about the cemetery is an incredible experience. I am so proud that they understand the service the men of Lodi, decades ago, performed for our country, for them, today. This time of year also marks another prideful moment for America and the Tokay football team.
We have two incredible men about to begin their journey in service to America. Jesse Thoma will be leaving soon to join the United States Marines and Dakota Matthews will be joining the United States Army. Both of these men I have had the honor of coaching for the past four years.
I feel safe knowing that men like them are dedicating their lives to maintaining the glory that is America. In my six years as the coach of Tokay I have seen men head off to similar endeavors.
I am so proud of these young men and so proud to be an American.
