Indian baskets, contraband cars and one creepy rabbit: A day with antiques
Classified advertising rep Mellisa Michelson had her Air Service poster valued at $26.

Since we are in the business of writing, several reporters and editors flocked around these aged family heirlooms. Adam Anapolsky, right, appraises books Dulcie Omyer brought in. Most of them were Bibles or religious texts from the early 1880s and were in German. Anapolsky recommended Omyer take them to a book expert who preferably can read German.

This gigantic bottle of Canadian Whisky was valued at $50 empty. The problem? It was full. Appraiser Adam Anapolsky suggested the man keep it because the value of the whisky was worth more than he could offer the man.

I really loved this Tim Burtonesque lamp, but I missed the appraisal of it.

This paper boy decoration was not worth much, but in our hearts, he is a newspaper super hero named The Paginator.

My favorite antique was this black car with secret hiding places. The owner said she heard that the car was for contraband items. Appraiser Adam Anapolsky said the car could also be a toy, but because there was no manufacturer mark it was hard to put a price on it.

This cute little bear had a wind up mechanism on his back that made his tail go in circles. Turns out he was produced in Japan and was valued around $20.

Appraiser Adam Anapolsky said he does not specialize in Native American artifacts, so he was not sure if this basket was actually authentic, but said it is possible it was hand woven.

The greatest find of the day was these four Lodi News-Sentinel pint glasses with famous headlines. Obviously, they are priceless. Publisher Marty Weybret explained that the newspaper created these glasses in the late 1980s as Christmas gifts for its employees. There were four different options, so the couple had the complete set.

The most unsettling and creepy award goes to this gigantic rabbit. Is he from Alice and Wonderland? The Island of Lost Toys? All of our nightmares? The owner said she is forced to keep the rabbit in storage because her partner could not handle it in the house. Because it's creepy. No price was given on the rabbit because he did not have a manufacturer's label. But I'm sure the bad dreams you will get from him are free.

The News-Sentinel was a hubbub of activity today as appraisers from California Loan & Jewelry in Sacramento looked through people's prized possession and Good Day Sacramento broadcast about the most pricey finds.
I spent the entire time snapping photos of what I found interesting (i.e. often not that valuable). Take a look at the photo gallery to see what people brought in, read the story on the event and check out clips from Good Day Sacramento.
