In Thursday's News-Sentinel, I wrote a story about Jessie's Grove moving into the old Union Ice House at Main and Locust streets to open a tasting room. The Dancing Fox will also produce its wine in the building.

I called Toasted Toad, a 4-month-old winery at Main and Elm Streets, to get their opinion about having another winery east of the railroad tracks.

Owner Jeffrey Werter said additional tasting rooms creates momentum and leads to more people finding out about what Lodi has to offer.

He hopes that two wineries on Main Street will promote more development on the street. One of the main benefits is both wineries restored two historic landmarks in Downtown, Werter said. The Toasted Toad selected their building because it needed to be big enough to house both a tasting room and a production facility, he said.

"These buildings are not being torn down but instead they are being restored," Werter said. "When people come Downtown, they are not just going to tasting rooms, but they get to see fully functional wineries."
