City continues long-time partnership with nonprofit
In today's paper, I wrote a brief blurb about the city signing a
new contract with the United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin, Amador
and Calveras Counties.
The organization provides jobs for those with a wide range of
disabilities, not just cerebral palsy. They receive minimum wage
and work in crews cleaning or doing landscape work.
I wrote about the program in detail 2009 and
really enjoyed talking with all of the employees as they
worked.
I also wanted to provide a little more information on John
Slaughterback, who spoke at the council meeting on Wednesday. While
covering Galt, I have watched Slaughterback question the council on
a whole slew of topics. He often criticized the management of
Galt's waste water treatment plant and was a vocal
opponent of a proposed senior housing project in Galt off
of Twin Cities Road.
He recently moved to Lodi and said he will be attending the
council meeting.
In other news, I'm heading out Thursday morning to watch a guy
jump out of an airplane in a flying wing suit that was used in
Transformers III. So stay tuned for that.
