Brewster's Bar and Grill scheduled to open in April
Posted on
February 17, 2011
Plush and decadent are the main word Alex Origoni uses to
describe plans for a new 7,000 square feet lounge and banquet space
in Galt. It will be on the second floor of the new Brewster's Bar and Grill, which will be in one
of the city's oldest historical buildings at B and 4th streets.
Origoni showed the above photo to the Galt City Council and said
he hopes the large bar on the second floor will look similar to
this one from somewhere in England. We are hoping that they will
also be selling those small cans of Pringle's because they are
delicious.
Origoni is one of three owners of the Shady
Lady in Sacramento, a popular bar and restaurant that the trio
describes as an “urban speakeasy saloon.”
At a meeting Tuesday, the Galt City Council approved loaning
D&S Development $250,000 to finish upgrading the banquet room.
The developer will spend another $212,000 to finish the second
floor space. Origoni and his two co-owners also plan to spend
$125,000 in furnishings and equipment.
In total, the city has loaned the developers $1.6 million to
complete the rehabilitation of the building from 1868. Here's the
breakdown:
• $342,000 as a grant for seismic retrofitting the building
• $583,000 as a 10-year forgiveable loan the developer meets
certain conditions, including having a restaurant in the building
for 8 years.
• $675,000 as a 20-year loan at 3 percent interest.
The restaurant and bar is scheudled to open in April. I'll make
sure to keep you updated as the project moves forward.
