Good morning everyone! We finally had some rain last night and early this morning. I grabbed a quick picture on the way to the Lodi City Council shirtsleeves meeting.
The council discussed mid-year expenses for all of the different departments. I wrote a story with tidbits on the http://www.lodinews.com/news/article_f71fd3cc-d577-593d-bde9-5b68bdde367a.html" target="_blank">city's mid-year revenue a couple weeks ago, and I'll have something similar in Wednesday's paper for the expenses.
Today I wanted to write about a little challenge going on at http://www.good.is/post/the-good-30-day-challenge-become-a-good-citizen/" target="_blank">GOOD, a lifestyle blog and magazine. Every month, they do a different challenge that has a daily task to make you smarter about something, whether it's your finances or fitness.
This month, they are doing a http://www.good.is/post/the-good-30-day-challenge-become-a-good-citizen/" target="_blank">Become a GOOD Citizen challenge! Granted, we are already seven days in, but you can always just pick a day to start it and then do one task each day or play catch up.
So far, GOOD has challenged participants to: http://www.good.is/post/good-citizenship-task-1-learn-about-the-history-of-your-neighborhood-30daysofgood/" target="_blank">learn the history of your neighborhood, read two opposing opinion pieces on the same topic, http://www.good.is/post/good-citizenship-task-3-learn-about-your-local-representatives-and-political-issues-30daysofgood/" target="_blank">learn about your elected representatives and political issues, http://www.good.is/post/good-citizenship-task-4-make-a-list-of-issues-you-re-passionate-about-30daysofgood/" target="_blank">make a list of issues you are passionate about, http://www.good.is/post/good-citizenship-task-5-research-the-people-and-organizations-working-on-your-issues-30daysofgood/" target="_blank">research the people and organizations working on your issues, and today's challenge of http://www.good.is/post/good-citizenship-task-5-research-the-people-and-organizations-working-on-your-issues-30daysofgood/" target="_blank">visiting a political news source you don't agree with.
Many of these challenges are something people should be doing everyday because it is important to stretch outside your comfort zone and make sure you understand not only what you believe but what others belive.
I especially like the researching your own neighborhood challenge, and will probably blog my findings once I finish.
I will also share the other challenges during the rest of the month (in case people want to participate in only one or two).
So go check it out. If you do decide to try one of the challenges, I would love to hear about your experience. You can always comment or e-mail me at email@example.com.
Have a great Tuesday.
