I'm at the Lodi City Council and Lodi Professional Firefighters Association President Brad Doell just did a presentation on Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The Lodi Firefighters are raising funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by hosting two fundraising nights at Chili's Restaurant and selling t-shirts at the fire station.

"We decided to go pink," Doell said.

About eight firefighters and three councilmembers showed up in their pink shirts that include a pink ribbon and say Lodi Fire Dept. on the back.

Chief Dan Haverty purchased shirts for every member of the department in memory of his father and sister who passed away from cancer.

Mayor Bob Johnson gave Doell a proclamation. Johnson reminded everyone that breast cancer can also affect men too, including his his friend and former Galt Mayor Tony Gora, who died of the disease.

"There is nothing selective about this deadly illness," Johnson said.

Make sure you check out Thursday's paper to find out how you can help.
