Every year, we select our Top 10 stories, and it can often be a difficult task. There are the straight new stories: grade-changing questions with Lodi Unified School District, the Mokelumne River being closed because of flooding, a look at a public-private partnership with the Lodi water treatment plant and California redistricting.

Mayor Bob Johnson started tonight's meeting by acknowledging the members of city boards, committees, commissions and task forces who are retiring. He then handed out the yearly Mayor's Community Service Award.

It has been a busy couple of months. Between our 9/11 special section, a Grape Festival special section and learning my new role as our social media organizer, I kind of put my blog on hold briefly. But I'm back and will give this space my full attention during the next couple of weeks.

When you stop and think about the Internet, it is truly amazing. You can speak "face to face" with family in foreign countries, watch your friends' children grow up even if they live in a different state and stay in contact with a large number of people.

Anyone who has turned on cable news recently has heard a variety of scenarios for the upcoming Rapture that will start May 21. We even wrote a story about it back in April when billboards started popping up around town announcing that it is coming.

Residents in the city of Lodi will be able to buy and set off fireworks this Fourth of July. Forty-seven nonprofits have applied for the right to sell them to you.

Plush and decadent are the main word Alex Origoni uses to describe plans for a new 7,000 square feet lounge and banquet space in Galt. It will be on the second floor of the new Brewster's Bar and Grill, which will be in one of the city's oldest historical buildings at B and 4th streets.

I attended a seminar Tuesday night in Galt about bullying that discussed ways for parents and teachers to deal with it. After a string of highly publicized teen suicides nationwide, it was a very timely subject and one I imagine most parents are interested in.

Happy Wednesday everyone. For the past few days, we have run a series on the results of the Lodi City Council election. On Saturday, I looked at Alan Nakanishi winning every single precinct in Lodi and on Tuesday, I focused on the precincts where the other candidates had their best showing.

As my toes stiffened in the cold and the cheerleaders finished 48 high kicks, I marveled at the spirited fans ringing cow bells, the sea of red sweatshirts and pom-poms and the Lodi High quarterback and players who were dominating McNair with touchdown after touchdown.

There is nothing worse than a summer cold. I used two of my first sick days ever last week after coming down with a stuffy nose, sore throat and those weird hot flashes that you get when sick. While I still have a stuffy nose, I'm overall feeling better and am excited to get back to work.
