Lodi Councilwoman Mounce wants Downtown webcam brought back online

Lodi City Councilwoman JoAnne Mounce used a free comment period during Tuesday morning's "shirtsleeve" meeting to question City Manager Rad Bartlam as to why the Downtown webcam on the city's web site has been disabled.

Indian baskets, contraband cars and one creepy rabbit: A day with antiques

The News-Sentinel was a hubbub of activity today as appraisers from California Loan & Jewelry in Sacramento looked through people's prized possession and Good Day Sacramento broadcast about the most pricey finds.

President of the Universal Society of Hinduism gives invocation

Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, just delivered a prayer before the Lodi City Council meeting. Zed came from Reno to give the invocation.

Main Street winery owners hope they are start of more development

In Thursday's News-Sentinel, I wrote a story about Jessie's Grove moving into the old Union Ice House at Main and Locust streets to open a tasting room. The Dancing Fox will also produce its wine in the building.

There are the straight new stories: grade-changing questions with Lodi Unified School District, the Mokelumne River being closed because of flooding, a look at a public-private partnership with the Lodi water treatment plant and California redistricting.

Who received the Mayor Community Service Award?

Mayor Bob Johnson started tonight's meeting by acknowledging the members of city boards, committees, commissions and task forces who are retiring. He then handed out the yearly Mayor's Community Service Award.

Staff sergeant serving in Iraq offers comments on ROTC story

When you stop and think about the Internet, it is truly amazing. You can speak "face to face" with family in foreign countries, watch your friends' children grow up even if they live in a different state and stay in contact with a large number of people.

How are you celebrating the end of the world?

Anyone who has turned on cable news recently has heard a variety of scenarios for the upcoming Rapture that will start May 21. We even wrote a story about it back in April when billboards started popping up around town announcing that it is coming.

Craving Chili's today? Grab a meal for a good cause

As some of you may know, I'm participating in our work's Relay for Life team this year. We are having a fundraiser today at Chili's Restaurant, and our team will receive 15 percent if you take in this flier or mention it. I know I'm planning to eat lunch and maybe even dinner there.

Forty-seven nonprofits apply to sell fireworks

Residents in the city of Lodi will be able to buy and set off fireworks this Fourth of July. Forty-seven nonprofits have applied for the right to sell them to you.

Brewster's Bar and Grill scheduled to open in April

Plush and decadent are the main word Alex Origoni uses to describe plans for a new 7,000 square feet lounge and banquet space in Galt. It will be on the second floor of the new Brewster's Bar and Grill, which will be in one of the city's oldest historical buildings at B and 4th streets.

I attended a seminar Tuesday night in Galt about bullying that discussed ways for parents and teachers to deal with it. After a string of highly publicized teen suicides nationwide, it was a very timely subject and one I imagine most parents are interested in.

Happy Wednesday everyone. For the past few days, we have run a series on the results of the Lodi City Council election. On Saturday, I looked at Alan Nakanishi winning every single precinct in Lodi and on Tuesday, I focused on the precincts where the other candidates had their best showing.

Statesman and Pioneers: More than 100 years of football rivalry

As my toes stiffened in the cold and the cheerleaders finished 48 high kicks, I marveled at the spirited fans ringing cow bells, the sea of red sweatshirts and pom-poms and the Lodi High quarterback and players who were dominating McNair with touchdown after touchdown.
