Mother’s Day is back and you’re faced with the same question from last year.  What do I get my mother?  You may have heard a similar response from your mother before.  “All I want this year is the health and happiness of our family, my children to get along, and WORLD PEACE.” (Insert princess wave here.)  This answer can be confusing…

While yes, we would all love world peace, mothers are holding back.  We want a gift!  It may be hard to admit, but mothers all want something special.  What’s so hard about that?  If your answer is EVERYTHING, let me help.

A special something can come in many shapes and sizes.  It does not need to hold monetary value, but it should be thoughtful and from the heart.  With Mother’s Day just around the corner, my advice is to plan something special.  Pick some flowers from the garden and prepare a toast for your mother or write her a letter.  Make her feel special by buying her favorite chocolates, jewelry or even a spa treatment.  Whatever it is, wrap it up with a bow and spend some time with your mother!

This Lavender Lemon Drop will ensure success on your Mother’s Day. It can start out as Lavender Lemondae (for the kids), but it is quickly transformed into a Lavender Lemon Drop!  As the drinks are poured, add the Limoncello and citron vodka upon request.

Lavender Lemon Drop

Yields: 4 quarts

Ingredients:

12 Lemons (juice only)

4 quarts of water

8 cups of raw sugar

12 sprigs of lavender

3 oz. Ventura Limoncello

3 oz. Absolut Citron Vodka

Cooking Instructions:  Add your water to a medium size stockpot, add your lavender sprigs and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and allow the lavender sprigs to steep in the liquid. White foam will float on top of your lavender water; discard the foam by skimming the foam off the top with a kitchen spoon. Strain the lavender water through a colander and put the liquid back into the pot and add your sugar and bring to a boil. Once the sugar has dissolved add your lemon juice and cool rapidly. Add limoncello and vodka. Chill your lavender lemonade and serve with a lemon wheel and lavender blossom.

This Lavender Lemon Drop was featured in our Summer Fun episode with Chef Jason Collis.  His featured dishes were fantastic and would be a great addition to your Mother’s Day celebration.
