If you spend any length of time being the creative type, you may eventually repeat yourself. It's a definite possibility with writing, but even more so when it comes to cartooning.

I call it “plagiarizing myself,” and it's happened more than once.

On March 31, this past Saturday, “Ducks in Lodi” depicted one of the main characters, Edwin, extolling the virtues of spring. It started with his declaration of loving the season. It ends with a horrible allergy-induced sneeze and the hating of the previously loved season.

Simple, to the point, and probably how many people feel when those dreaded sneezes hit.

Another original strip for the archives … or so I thought.

As I was rifling through a storage box looking for a coin purse (that's another story), I found a booklet of old comic strips I had compiled for syndication submission. In the back of the booklet were a few copies of “Ducks” from 2007. I took a moment to review my older work.

And there it was.

In 2007, when “Ducks” was appearing in the Lodi Living section of the News-Sentinel, I had drawn a strip in which Edwin exclaims how much he loves spring. He sneezes. He hates spring.

Either I need to start re-reading my old work or I need to start loving spring.
