Trout fishing picking up at New Melones

The trout fishing is picking up a little bit at New Melones. Fish and Game has started their planting of catchable-size trout. The best fishing at this time is in Angel Cove with either powerbait or casting spoons. Boat and bank fishermen are doing best with bait.

In the Delta, there are mixed reports on the sturgeon fishing. We have reports of limits on some boats and no fish on others. The reports are coming from the area around Chain Island, the Moth Ball fleet and Cache Slough.

The striped bass fishing is still about the same, with good numbers of fish caught but the size is still very small. The sloughs are seeing more fish caught but as with other areas of the Delta the fish are very small. Both bait and trolling are working well.

The lure of choice for the trollers is still the Yozuri, both deep diver and shallow running models.

On the Sacramento River bait fishermen are doing well in front of Decker Island, on The Dairy and the power lines. Trollers are moving around a lot to find their fish.

The San Joaquin River side of the Delta is producing fish from the mouth of False River to The mouth of Potato Slough.

At Camanche, trollers are catching rainbow trout using Rapala f7 and f9 in the hot steel, R-lure or Needlefish in red and white and Mepps Syclops in a variety of colors.

Bank and tube fishermen were also doing well with power bait, power eggs, wooly buggers and magic bullets in the south pond and in Campers Cove on the main lake.
