Congress has allocated more than $11 million for water projects in San Joaquin County, including money for the Mokelumne River, the groundwater basin, the Lodi area and Delta levee repairs, according to Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton.

The allocations, recently signed by President Obama, include $233,000 toward planning and development of additional Mokelumne River water storage, and another $484,000 for the Farmington Groundwater Recharge Project, which is intended to help replenish the depleting groundwater basin east and south of Lodi.

"These funds are also an injection of much-needed capital in the local economy," McNerney said in a news release. "Our area needs the jobs that projects like these can help create and save."

Other allocations include:

  • $314,000 toward the Central Valley integrated flood management study, which includes the Lodi area, said McNerney spokeswoman Sarah Hersh.

  • $394,000 for a study to develop a long-term strategy to address Delta levee issues.

  • $4.8 million for a levee stability program administered by Cal-Fed, a federal-state partnership intended to improve water resources in the Delta.

  • $897,000 for a Lower San Joaquin River study.

  • $100,000 for the Pinole shoal management study to identify beneficial uses for dredged materials in the Delta.

  • Almost $3.4 million for maintenance dredging at the Port of Stockton's ship channel.

  • $484,000 for levee and bridge improvements in the Stockton metropolitan area.
