Trout totaling 2,500 pounds will be planted at Oak Grove Park this week in preparation for Saturday's 25th Annual Trout Bout.

Kids ages 15 years and younger are invited to fish for trout free at Oak Grove's 10-acre lake during the event, which begins at 6:15 a.m. and is sponsored by the San Joaquin County Parks Department and the Delta Fly Fishers.

The derby will coincide with the beginning of the trout season at Oak Grove, where over 9,000 pounds of trout will be planted throughout the season.

There is no registration fee for the Trout Bout, however, a $3 fishing permit fee and valid fishing license are required for those 16 years of age or over. A $5 vehicle parking fee will also apply.

Participants must supply their own fishing equipment. Prizes will be awarded in all categories (youth and adult competitions) and participation is limited to one competition.

Park gates will be open at 6:15 a.m., registration closes at 10 a.m. and the last weigh-in is at 12:30 p.m. Oak Grove Regional Park is located on Eight Mile Road just east of Interstate 5. For more information, call (209) 331-2050 or log onto www.mgzoo.com.
