Residents are charged to pay tax bills
We received our property tax bill in the mail so I thought I would call the county to see if we could pay our taxes online. Here is what I was told and it about floored me:
Yes, you can pay online, but there is a fee to do so — 2.5 percent of the bill. This is equal to about $25 for every thousand you owe. When I asked the person why, I received another answer I didn't expect: "We do not handle taxes anymore, we outsource them."
I told the person I would just send them a check then. They responded by telling me there would be a $1.50 for handling.
I would like to know what exactly do the county tax people do to entertain themselves? They must be awfully bored in that department! I hope that they have plenty of coffee on hand.
