Lodian Dan Gifford honored for conservation efforts
Dan Gifford, who has managed the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve and played a vital role in creating San Joaquin County's Habitat Conservation Plan, was honored for his commitment to conservation at the Sandhill Crane Festival last week.
The employee with the California Department of Fish and Game earned the award from the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association because of his work in the area of habitat and wildlife conservation.
San Joaquin County's Habitat Conservation Plan has preserved more than 8,000 acres of habitat for wildlife in the county. The plan was made possible by Gifford's efforts and ability to work with private landowners, cities and businesses.

The city of Lodi's Electric Utility Department will hand out 100 new LED light strings Saturday to Lodi residents who turn in a strand of traditional, non-LED lights. People will need to bring a proof of residency, and there will be only one string of lights per family.
Also, the utility will provide 200 coupons, valued at $4, that can be used to purchase LED holiday light strings at any Lodi retailer. There is a limit of three coupons per family.
The light exchange will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hutchins Street Square at the Oak Street entrance.
The programs is funded by the Lodi Public Benefits Program, which is mandated by the state.
