Kiwanis members awarded Kiwanians of the year
President Randy Heinitz of the Kiwanis Club presented the Kiwanian of the Year award to two members recently at the annual installation banquet. Robin Guthrie and Nancy Waitley were the recipients of this award for the outstanding service they provided the club and the community during the past year.
The Kiwanis Club of Lodi, which has been a part of Lodi since 1944, emphasizes service to Lodi's young people through a variety of activities, including adopting Lawrence School, providing college scholarships to graduates of the local high schools, and working with the Lodi Adopt-A-Child program. Lawrence School benefits from the Club's work with the purchase of books for the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program, visits at Career Day and holiday functions, at awards assemblies throughout the year, and monthly recognition of students at the regular Monday lunch meetings of the Club.
President Heinitz thanked the members for the many volunteer hours that the members performed during the past year, and also acknowledged outgoing officers Secretary Jerry Glenn and Treasurer Steve Cottrell. District Lt. Governor Francis Ragland installed the new officers for the 2009-10 term. They are Mike Reese, president; Roy Edwards, president-elect; Robin Guthrie, secretary; and Steve Cottrell, treasurer.
