Armed robbers still targeting Lodi shops
A man in a Halloween mask robbed a Lodi gas station early Wednesday, the fifth armed robbery in the city in less than two weeks.
Nobody has been injured in any of the incidents, and police are still investigating whether any of the robberies are connected. The robbers have hit three convenience stores, a bank and a fast food restaurant.
Wednesday's robbery happened at 1 a.m. at the 76 gas station on East Victor Road near Highway 99. A man in a "Halloween mask" entered, brandished a handgun and demanded cash, Lodi Police Sgt. Fernando Martinez said.
In the process, the mask, which was not further described in an officer's report on the matter, slipped partially down the suspect's face. The clerk described the suspect as a Hispanic man who wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, Martinez said.
On Saturday, a man robbed the nearby Burger King, located about a block away at Victor Road and Cherokee Lane. At 3:45 a.m., a man entered the back door of the eatery, pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded cash, Martinez said.
That suspect was described as a black man dressed in black, with a white bandana over his face.
The previous day, around 3:10 p.m. Friday, a man walked up to the Union Bank counter inside Smart Foods, 610 W. Kettleman Lane. The man handed the teller a note that said he had a gun, and he demanded cash, Martinez said.
The suspect was described as white or Hispanic, age 25 to 35, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a thin build. He wore a button-up black shirt.
The other two robberies both happened at convenience stores that were also gas stations.
On Oct. 26 around 8:20 p.m. Short Stop, 20 W. Turner Road, was robbed. And on Oct. 22, USA Gas at the corner of Lower Sacramento Road and Lodi Avenue was robbed around 2:20 a.m.
Police did not disclose the amount of cash taken in any of the robberies. They were working to get surveillance footage of the robberies, but none was available by Wednesday.
