Soroptimists provided lunch items to Salvation Army
Members of Soroptimist International of Lodi have been donating peanut butter and jelly to the Salvation Army to provide lunches for children during their summer break. Many children go without lunch when school is not in session and the school lunch programs are not available. Eligible families were able to provide lunch for their children through the peanut butter and jelly donations. The summer program was very successful and the Salvation Army is continuing the program. The program started with 40 families and there are now over 200 families. Your donations of peanut butter and jelly are welcome at the Salvation Army at 525 W. Lockeford Street or call 369-5896.
In addition to the PBJ program the Salvation Army distributes 2,000 bags of food a month and 400 emergency bags. They also serve 200 dinners every night at the Hope Harbor Shelter. Donations are welcome to support these programs as well.
Soroptimist International of Lodi also made a donation of $2,000 to the Salvation Army Hope Harbor Shelter. The donation is to purchase bunk beds and bedding. The shelter has been full all summer and was in need of additional beds for women and children.
Soroptimist International of Lodi began meeting in September after their summer break. Visitors are welcome to join them for their meeting at noon on the second, third and fourth Tuesdays at Dee Dee’s Restaurant on Cherokee Lane. New members are welcome. Visit the Soroptimist of Lodi Web site for more information at http://www.lodisoroptimist.org.
