Lions Club completes Community Improvement Project

The Lodi Lions Club recently completed its work on behalf of the 2009 Community Improvement Project Grant recipient Beckman Elementary School. Together with hard-working teachers, other volunteers, and using materials generously donated by such local organizations as Diede Construction, Foster Lumber and California Rock and Ready, several members of the Lodi Lions Club helped construct a Community Garden on the school site. Complete with a fully functioning drip irrigation system, the Community Garden has already blossomed with sunflowers, pumpkins and tomatoes. The project is intended to not only provide students with a wonderful hands-on learning experience that is outside the traditional box but also to provide the local community with affordable and healthy food supplies. 

According to Trent Diehl, chairman of the 2009 Community Improvement Project, “The selected project allowed the Lions to not only give back to the community by helping to create a garden that both the school and surrounding community can take great pride in, but it also serves to provide our local children with a fun alternative form of education during a time when our schools are faced with severe budget constraints that would otherwise be unavailable. The Lions Club would like to thank everyone who contributed to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”

The Lodi Lions Club  meets every Wednesday at noon at Frank Johnson Memorial building on the Lodi Grape Festival Grounds. Please feel free to join us!
