A Galt motorcyclist died Sunday on Highway 12 when an oncoming driver veered across the center line in thick fog, according to the California Highway Patrol. The other driver also died.

Eric P. Bell, 29, was traveling west around 5:20 a.m. near Rio Vista when an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line and hit Bell's Yamaha motorcycle.

The two motorists collided head-on, and the force of the crash sent Bell into the cab of the other vehicle, according to the CHP. That driver, identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as 61-year-old Carl W. Stamm, of Rio Vista, also died at the scene.

" I want to point out that there are no centerline rumble strips on 12 for much of the road Rio Vista to Lodi. Had there been, this may not have happened. Caltrans has done very little on this section of that crummy road to make it safer...compared to the Rio Vista- Farifield section where a LOT is being done. "
