Galt Joint Elementary School District board approves needs analysis

The Galt Joint Elementary School District has followed suit with the high school district in approving its annual facilities needs analysis at a meeting last week. The change essentially results in a slight decrease in the amount developers pay to build within the city.

The Galt Joint Union High School District board of trustees approved the same decrease in its facility fee at a meeting in October. The amount charged to developers is examined annually and goes to paying for new school construction.

Also at last Wednesday's meeting, the elementary board:

  • Approved the Regional Compact for Children and Youth. Superintendent Karen Schauer sees the partnership as a way to strengthen school district and community efforts to develop and put into place Galt's very first Youth Master Plan.

  • Heard a report from Assistant Superintendent Jim Bauler on the district's efforts to work with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District to evaluate school district energy efficiency and ultimately find ways to reduce energy costs.

  • Recognized Lisa Hegdahl, McCaffrey Middle School science teacher, and Principal Ron Rammer for supporting student teachers at University of California, Davis.

  • Approved a $140,000 grant to fund a new school bus through the Sacramento Metro Air Quality Management district. The program requires the district's 1977 Thomas Bus be retired from the fleet in exchange for a less polluting public school bus.

  • Due to the holidays, rescheduled the next two school board meetings to Nov. 18 and Dec. 9.
