The fallacy of 'democracy'

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 6:11 AM PDT

Arne Aasen, Sept. 30, Billy Rubin and other online commenters regularly create "straw man" arguments that falsely describe their opponents' position as desiring a theocracy so they can feel self-righteous when condensing and ridiculing their own "straw man."

Concurrently, they present the logical fallacy of the "false alternative," sometimes called the "either/or" fallacy. It's a fallacy because they withhold the correct alternative.

Using such deception de facto admits the error of their position.

They believe ours is a secular government, meaning "godless" (alternative No. 1). They falsely accuse those like Audrey Boyd, Sept. 28, and Michael Nedderman, Sept. 26, of wanting it to be or believing that it's a theocracy (alternative No. 2). That fallacy's "bumper sticker" is: "Democracy or theocracy."

However, "Americanism" (defined by reading the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Federalist Papers and the founders' writings) presents alternative No. 3: a republican form of government founded upon Christian principles, permitting freedom of conscience and expression without being theocratic (see Boyd's Sept. 28 letter quoting unanimous U.S. Supreme Court). What a country!

You see, Lodian (another ideologically blinded and abrasive online commenter), this isn't difficult, unless your agenda is exposed as being subversive of "Americanism" when the history of this great country is objectively examined — something public schools fail to do when propagandizing multiple generations into accepting an anti-constitutional progressive/neo-socialist worldview.

Lodian, Aasen and Rubin should find online the Canadian interview of KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov describing that threat. While the USSR's collapse delayed the predicted outcome, the process Bezmenov describes planted anti-constitutional "seeds" empowering the domestic equivalent to which Aasen and his ideological ilk are committed.

"Americanism" is our non-theocratic government founded upon the political theory stated in the Declaration which includes a grateful acknowledgment of the Christian God who created and endowed even atheists with "certain unalienable rights." That includes, as Nedderman observed, a prayer for Jesus' guidance ("appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions"), and for His protection ("with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence"). Atheists hate that self-evident fact. Amen!

And yet, Mr. Hanner, you publish a clearly inflammatory letter sprinkled with personal attacks. It can only serve to stir up the inevitable nasty blogging, something you claim is verboten. What's the deal Rich? "

Lodian, are you still the "pet" of LNS? I mean, they printed a very unflattering view of your blogging and intellectual skills without edit. "

" Imagine the stink Brian would make if liberals here started posting links to moveon.org as their sources and yet he thinks it is perfectly acceptable for him to post links to absurdly partisan sites like blessedcause.org.

Come on Brian, surely even you can see why this sort of thing is hypocritical?

How about we cut out the partisan BS and just talk about the issues at hand? "

Imbeciles? You mean like people who are so uncritical in their media consumption that they would actually post a link to "blessedcause.org" on a public website?

Get a clue Brian. "
