Lodi Public Library gets new, user-friendly Web site
Lodi Public Library unveiled a new Web site on Friday that library staff members hope is easier to navigate and will be updated more frequently.
The site features a menu bar with pictures to help guide people to different parts of the site, such as "Find Books," "Databases" and "My Account."
The new site received a "facelift" to make it easier to read and find information, said Lodi resident David Diskin, who designed the site.

The site allows people to enlarge the text if need be and also is compatible with a program that will read the text to the computer user, he said.
To decide on the main menu items, Diskin analyzed data from two months of usage to see what pages people visiting the most, so he could make them more prominent.
He found people were clicking most on links for programs, KidSpace, adult literacy, finding the library catalog and how to get in touch with the library. He said the goal is to make everything one click away from the home page.
Library Services Director Nancy Martinez hopes the new site will boost the number of people using it. She wanted to make it more "pictorial" to strike more interest.
As of Oct. 15, Martinez said the library had been billed for $500, but she did not have a figure of how much the site design will cost. Diskin said his company, Applied Office, gave the library a discounted rate because of its nonprofit status.
Diskin will stay on to help update the site with videos, new books of the month and other library events. Martinez said the library wants the site to be more interactive, and her staff does not have the expertise to update the site as often as needed.
