Last weekend to fish at Pardee until February
This is the last weekend to fish at Pardee until February. Trout fishing is still fair on the south end of the lake for both trollers and bait fishermen.
The best bait is crawlers for the trollers trolling very slow and power eggs for the bait dunkers.
At Amador, trout fishing is good using ghost pearl color mini jigs and trout worms in the orange or yellow/orange under a bobber. Fish near the surface and move your baits very slow.
In the Delta, striped bass fishing has been the best on the San Joaquin River for the past two weeks. Some of the best fishing has been near West Island, just below the Antioch Bridge, on both sides of the shoals just above the Antioch Bridge and in front of Gallagher's Island by Eddo's Harbor.
Stripers are also being caught on the Sacramento River near Decker Island, under the power lines and in front of the breaks on Sherman Lake.
Trollers are catching fish using Yozuri lures both on the surface and deep divers. South of Rio Vista has been best.
Sturgeon fishing is picking up and fish are being caught both in the San Joaquin River and the Sacramento River. The best area for the Sacramento River is in the Light 1 area near Chain Island or in Broad Slough near the pilings. One of the best baits to use is Salmon Roe. There are sturgeon being caught near the PG&E plant in Pittsburg. Many of the fish are undersized.
At Camanche, the planned trout planting for the lake and pond has started and there will be 9,600 pounds planted in the month of October. The fishing in the lake has been good especially for the bait fishermen. The best baits have been powerbait and power eggs.
Some have suggested fishing an area for 15 or 20 minutes and if you do not get any bites move around and try another spot. Fishing in about 25 to 30 of water either above the narrows or in the main body of the lake has provided good fishing.
Trollers are working the surface to about 25 feet deep using brass bikini Needle Fish and hot steel f7 or f9 Rapala.
A Catfish reported to be about 40 pounds and approximately 4 feet long was caught and released back into the south pond last week.
At Bear River Reservoir, good trolling using f7 or f9 Rapala from the surface to 15 feet deep for rainbow trout.
The trout fishing at New Melones is still slow but water temperature is coming down and the trolling should begin very soon on the surface. Some fish are being caught in the coves on bait and up the river arm using Excel, Needlefish and Rapalas.
Good luck and good fishing.
