Lodi City Council to discuss cuts to bus service

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 6:13 AM PDT

The Lodi City Council will discuss possible cuts to transit services at its meeting 7 p.m. today in Carnegie Forum, 305 W. Pine St.

The city is grappling with how to cut $373,000 from the city's transit budget. The cuts will begin Nov. 1 and continue through the end of the city's fiscal year, which is June 30, 2010.

About a month ago, the city found out that when the state legislature passed its budget, it included 20 percent less in transit funding than the city expected to receive.

Some of the services on the chopping block include eliminating weekend service, reducing hours that the bus runs on weekdays and eliminating same-day Dial-A-Ride service.

The city is offering free rides for people wanting to attend the meeting. Anyone who wants to attend must call Dial-a-Ride in advance to make a reservation.
