Downtown summit to be held Friday
On Friday, city officials and business leaders will gather to discuss Lodi's Downtown and what improvements can be made. It will be the first such summit in 12 years. Michael Freedman, who designed changes to School Street, will be one of the speakers.
The talks will focus on the multi-million dollar improvements to School Street and what else needs to be done to beautify and attract more merchants and customers to Downtown.
The meeting runs from 7 to 11:30 a.m. at Kirst Hall in Hutchins Street Square. The admission is free.

School Street Stroll starts Friday
The "School Street Stroll," a biannual event that features Lodi wineries pouring wine within Downtown boutiques, is being held againFriday. The event was also held in April and featured 25 wineries. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
The stroll will also feature a dedication of a bronze statue titled "Celebrate the Harvest." It is the latest of the Lodi Arts Commission's "Art in Public Places" project.
Tickets can be purchased at lodichamber.com or by calling the Lodi Chamber of Commerce at 367-7840. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 after 6 p.m. on Friday.
The chamber is also offering an overnight package that sells for $150 a couple. It enables guests to stay at either the new Hampton Suites or Holiday Inn Express on Kettleman on Friday night.

Galt Joint Union High School District approves fee decrease
Among other things, the Galt Joint Union High School District board of trustees approved a decrease in its facility fee at Tuesday's meeting. The amount charged to developers is examined annually and goes to paying for new construction, such as Liberty Ranch High School.
At the meeting, the board also received an update from interim Superintendent Audrey Kilpatrick on the search for a new superintendent. An Oct. 26 session has been set for trustees to discuss the selection of applicants to interview. On Nov. 11, the board is expected to interview applicants, she said, adding that soon after there will be site visits, a final selection and offer of employment.
Two change orders for Liberty Ranch construction were also approved at the regular board meeting.

Galt bond committee dissolved
The Galt Joint Union High School District Citizens' Independent Oversight Bond Committee delivered its final report at Tuesday's school board meeting, thus concluding its role.
The committee was founded in 2005, a month before Galt citizens approved the $29 million bond. The panel was responsible for monitoring spending of Measure B funds which went solely to the construction of the new high school, which opened this school year.
In the final written report Tuesday, Chairman Len ReidReynoso detailed the committee's oversight and declared the Liberty Ranch High School complete, having opened on time and on budget.
"From the information gathered to date, the Citizens' Independent Oversight Committee has done the job asked of its members and now agrees that it is time to disband," ReidReynoso wrote.

Oak View Union School District meeting tonight
Members of the Oak View Union School District will meet tonight to hear an update on the building program.
The board is also expected to discuss reducing class sizes from kindergarten through third-grade.
It meets tonight at 7:30 in the Oak View Union School multipurpose room, 7474 E. Collier Road, Acampo. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 19.
