With the help of Glenn Beck, this mom gets her message out
Founding Father George Washington once said, "My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her."
Moms. They're nurturing, they're giving, they're supportive, and they're always in your corner.
Some might make the argument that moms are responsible for instilling a child's moral compass. That a child is taught the difference between right, wrong and the ways of life by good ol' mom.
A mother disciplines her children when they get out of line and allows them to learn valuable life lessons when needed.
But more than anything, a mother — human or animal — will always defend and protect their children when they feel their kids are in danger or are concerned for their well-being.
Lori Parker is one of those moms.
Parker, a stay-at-home mother of four from a small town in Texas, became concerned for her children when she heard that the president would be making a live speech that was to be broadcast in her children's school, and to other schools across the country.
"What are they going to tell my kids?" Parker asked herself at a time when no one, not even the media, was talking about the speech or what would be said.
But, as a responsible parent, Parker felt the need to question exactly what was going to be said to her kids.
Concerned, Parker, a former graphic designer, started an online blog to share her thoughts with anyone who would read it and contacted her school district regarding the unfiltered, undisclosed speech.
While Parker did receive some not-so-kind e-mails about her position on the speech, her children's school district did make the call to delay the viewing until parents had an opportunity to decide whether or not it was appropriate for their kids.
Parker admits that the speech was "fairly benign" and that the White House could have saved themselves a lot of problems by just being up-front from the beginning. But even more of a concern to Parker was that the media didn't pick up on the speech very quickly, and it was only after she brought her concern to light that her neighbors and school administrators also began looking into the matter.
Parker said the experience was a "personal wake-up call," and didn't feel she was getting the whole story about what was going on unless she researched things herself.
Still feeling isolated in her thoughts and concerns on a much grander scale, Parker was worried about the future of America in such an uncertain time and, more importantly, her kids' place in that future.
"I worry my children will not be able to live according to the dictate of their own conscience," said Parker during a phone interview.
Having shared her feelings with her blog's three readers over the following weeks, Parker continued to wonder if there was anyone else that shared her same concerns or had questions like she did.
Last Friday night, Parker switched on her TV to catch the Glenn Beck program on Fox News. That night, Beck was hosting an in-studio forum of mothers from across the country who shared their feelings and their concerns regarding their children, their country and their country's leadership.
The show ended with a final thought from Dr. Frank I. Luntz saying, "If you begin everything with, 'As a mom' ... you win."
The feeling of isolation melting away and, being so moved by the broadcast, Parker began thinking about how she clearly wasn't the only mother questioning things, wondering about the integrity of our country and the future well-being of her children.
That Saturday night, Parker decided that since there really were other mothers out there that were asking questions and showing deep concern, she would upgrade her online effort from a solo blog to a social networking type Web site to welcome mothers of like-minded thought.
The 41-year-old Parker, who has never been politically active before, decided to make an outlet for mothers because it was obvious from the one-hour broadcast that the discussion could have gone on for days.
And as Parker puts it, "For every question out there, there is a mom or grandma who has been there, done that."
The site sat dormant for a few days until she let her best friend in on the project, asking her friend to stop her if she was wrong in any way. Her friend not only loved the idea, but asked to be the first member of the site; she is now an administrator of it.
This past Wednesday, Parker got up extra early to listen to the live version of the Glenn Beck radio program so that she could find an opportunity to call Beck and share her thoughts about the previous Friday's show and about her project.
Not even expecting to get on the air, Parker was put through and ended up speaking to Beck live. She mentioned that she had created a social networking site for mothers across America who wanted to continue the discussion. "I love you!" Beck said on the air to Parker, celebrating the creation of the site.
Parker then let Beck know that she was so inspired by Dr. Luntz's comment about beginning everything with "as a mom," she decided to call her site AsaMom.org. Parker added that she was also impressed with a mother named Nancy who appeared on the show, who talked about feeling alone in her thinking, but seeing the other moms there was like a "sisterhood of mommy patriots."
Shortly after the phone call, Parker's Web site crashed due to all of the hits. Her site would then go on to crash a total of five more times throughout the day as the broadcast made it to different parts of the country. Within 24 hours of the broadcast, AsaMom.org had over 5,100 mothers from almost every state joining up.
Due to the site's success and the message, Fox News asked Parker to appear on last night's Glenn Beck show.
Parker has already been informed by Beck radio producers that her phone call from Wednesday would be re-broadcast in the syndicated weekend version of the show.
With hundreds of new moms, grandmas and Mr. Moms requesting to be added to AsaMom.org every minute, this is only the beginning. There has even been talk on the AsaMom.org forums of a million mom march, possibly titled "Millions of Moms" or "M.O.M."
What does Parker think about all of the overnight support, excitement and success?
"It's better than eating a pan of brownies," she said.
Spoken like a true mom.

1)They can not subordinate immediate desires to long term goals. They never learned to be prudent and think that all salesman are there to "help" them get what they think they deserve. I am a ----fill in the blanks---therefore I deserve "X" for someone else to buy for me.
2)They never understand that DEBT IS NOT WEALTH. A debt MUST BE repaid WITH INTEREST. I don't know why they (liberals and their ilk) just don't get it---bubble to bubble they are always trying to get rich quick by BUYING and not saving.
We are still in a terrible housing bubble and possibly only 1/3 into it---but they are buying houses because they think they are "cheap". Welcome to Housing crash number Two. What happens when all the Option ARMS are due starting next January? Lets forget that---and spend more money today. Wait for the bank hidden housing inventory to get listed. If they had the money and the credit, they would buy the house. But they don't have the money, so they get it from the tax on workers.
What else---? Next month we will have an Obama subsidized Cash for new appliance program. I NONE of these programs is there any incentive to lower prices (as in capitalism---it's called supply and demand).

OK, first of all, you must have misread the post in question if it led you to believe that my Dad was my father in law. Your mistake and a man would admit his error and move on, but I expect no such correction from you.
Secondly, I do admit to having stated that you were a product of poor breeding but that was meant as comment on your intelligence and manners (or lack thereof) not your actual parentage.

I have no personal agenda against this young man. In fact, I encourage Wade in his career. I only plead, as I have in every comment I have ever posted here, that he write logically, professionally and post his own thoughts and not regugitate those of others. Wade's column began wonderfully. He made a very clear thesis statement about the value of a mother's love. It went downhill from there. "

They were going to build the olympic village in a part of town that Valerie Jarrett and other Chicago slime balls owned property. They were all poised to receive pay backs to renovate their properties through the funds to develop land for olympic arenas. When money, Chicago, and politicians are in the same sentence, they are followed by a sentence with corruption.
The olympics only bring a boost for the local economy for construction to build it, and for vendors to sell during it. After every olympic games, most every city is left decimated. The temporary 'boost' fades and the cities are left with numerous empty facilities and unpaid debt. "
