Galt Warriors stumble in SVC opener
The Vista del Lago Eagles jumped out to an early lead and held off the mistake-prone Galt Warriors in a 39-21 victory in the Sierra Valley Conference opener for both teams on Friday night in Folsom.
Galt blew several opportunities to keep the game close in the first half, but turnovers and costly penalties resulted in the Warriors scoring only once on four trips inside the red zone.
"We moved the ball fine against them but we had stupid mistakes," said Galt coach Richard Maberto, whose team turned the ball over five times (two fumbles, three interceptions).
Haran Piggee kept the Warriors (3-1) in the contest with nearly 400 yards in all-purpose offense. Piggee caught an 80-yard TD reception from Ryan Cox on Galt's third offensive play to tie game at 7-all early in the first quarter. The Eagles (2-2) scored the next 19 points before the Warriors answered with a touchdown late in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 26-14 at halftime.
Vista added a touchdown in the third quarter to break the game open.
Galt running back Ryan Nunn had two touchdown receptions and Piggee had an interception on defense.
Galt will host Tokay in a non-league game next Friday. The Warriors have defeated the Tigers the last two years.
"This is an eye-opener for our guys," Maberto said. "Hopefully this will make them hungry now and make them realize that if they want to win league they will have to put in the hard work."

The Pigee Bros are our greatest weapon. You'll meet them Friday night, they'll be the ones in YOUR end zone with the ball celebrating. "

If any of you have followed this group of boys you know they have been winning for a long time, since the by-gone days of the Galt Chiefs (Now the JR Warriors).
So to answer your question, not bandwagoning. Just enjoying the wins.
BTW- I wouldn't have EVER commented if it wasn't for attitudes like yours and FlamerFan's. You guys just can't accept the fact YOU LOST to "Hickville". It doesn't matter where Perkins (who?) was. We beat LHS by two TD's! What was the score again? "
