A man in paint-spattered coveralls robbed a Lodi bank this afternoon, threatening that he had an explosive and a gun, police said.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, and nobody was injured in the incident at Farmers and Merchants Bank, 1020 W. Kettleman Lane.

Surveillance photos showed the man who entered around 12:43 p.m., demanding a teller to place cash in a plastic bag, police said.

He wore dark blue, long-sleeved coveralls with paint spattered on them, over a gray shirt. He wore a black baseball cap with sunglasses and had a thin mustache.

Police believe the thin man is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, white or light-skinned Hispanic, in his late 40s to 50s. He left the bank and ran east.

Anyone with information may contact Lodi Police Detective Eric Bradley at (209) 333-6727. Anonymous callers may contact Lodi-Area Crimestoppers at (209) 333-6771.

" Why am I not surprised? Farmers and Merchants bank has been robbed before. As a matter of matter more than twice before this incident if more. Bank of America has a security guard walking around the building on Kettleman lane, Why not Farmers and Merchants? How many times does this bank have to get robbed before they either close the doors for good or hire a security guard? "

" Well, there goes the 3rd quarter dividend.

How stupid are crooks these day? Money is marked, or has exploding ink packets. Add in hi-tech cameras and these idiot bandits have to know their mug will be on the front page, the 5pm tv news, etc.

I'd bet you'd have a better chance of knocking off a few gas stations. "

" Cameras inside the bank, perhaps outside as well to be used to track the robber and help the LPD apprehend him within the hour. If he has a drivers licence, it shouldn`t be to hard to match the bank photo to a drivers licence, hey they do it on CSI. "

" I congratulate the LNS for disclosing the suspect this time. Why didn't you do this when the man robbed the Hair Supply near Walmart? The SacBee and Record both published photos of the suspect. Do the police not want the citizens assistance in these matters or is LNS not as good at gathering facts in its own city? "

" I hope they gave him marked money. He will be easy to locate, just check all the gin mills in town. Just a hunch? He also looks like a cigarette smoker! He looks like a very sloppy painter. Most painters I know don't get paint on their clothes. He has more paint on him than on his "last job"! The LPD will get him. Book em Dano! "
