Warriors, Flames show speed in Modesto XC meet
Galt's Sam Walling placed fifth overall in the varsity girls division of the Sierra Invitational on Saturday in Modesto, helping the Warriors place fifth in the team standings. Walling posted a time of 20 minutes, 24 seconds. Her teammate, Kelsea Tiapon took seventh in 20:56.
The Lodi girls placed sixth overall and were led by Brenley Noori in 11th place in 21:22 and Madison Gritsch in 15th in 21:53. Lodi's Tommy Lomeli raced to a ninth-place finish in 17:05 in the boys varsity race as the Flames placed 13th as a team. The Warrior boys took 11th as a team with help from Matt Freitag's 19th-place finish in 17:23.
The Lodi frosh-soph girls won their division with 31 points. Lodi's frosh-soph boys placed 22nd, while the Galt frosh-soph boys took 22nd.

Galt 3, Union Mine 0
The Warriors opened up their Sierra Valley League schedule with a victory in Galt on Monday. Chuy Gallo scored two goals to lead Galt and Isaac Valencia scored the other.
Galt's junior varsity team also won on Monday, defeating Elk Grove 5-0.
Lodi 1, Elk Grove 1
Taking advantage of a one-on-one breakaway, Lucas Travis scored Lodi's only goal in the 70th minute of the game as the Flames settled for a tie at home in preseason play on Monday.
Elk Grove scored early in the second half on a free kick. While the Flames dominated possession for most of the game, Lodi head coach Tim Stutz said they were unable to take advantage of their scoring chances.
Travis' goal was assisted by Hobie Day. Juan Carlos Ruiz and Robert Haggard both had standout games on defense for Lodi (2-0-2).

Spencer Rodriguez scored the Flames' only goal on an assist from C.J. Sousa on Monday. Ryan Vandenburg, Taylor Cox starred defensively for the Flames, while Jimmy Sierra and Anthony Miller played good games on the attack for Lodi (1-1-2).

The Flames moved to 4-0 on the season with a 10-25, 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 15-10 victory on Monday at Linden.
Emily McConahey led the Flaems with 13 kills, 14 digs and three aces, Betsy Colburn recorded 13 assists, five digs, three aces and one kill, Janae Reich totaled four blocks and two kills and Addie Alegre had 16 assists, six digs and three aces.

The Flames (3-0) tallied a 25-18, 25-20 victory at Linden on Monday. Lodi's Hannah Bradford had one kill, nine assists, three digs and four aces, Michelle Ono totaled five kills, three digs and nine aces and Megan McKay added three kills and one assist.

The Flames rolled to 3-0 on the season with a 25-7, 25-9 win at Linden on Monday. Mia Sahli posted four klills, four assist, five digs and two aces, Nicole Stone had two kills, four digs and five aces, Alicia Powers hit three kills and two digs, Kristen Schlader added three digs and five aces and Deseri Barba chipped in six digs.

Lodi takes 9th at Johansen Tourney
Lauren Plunket scored 20 goals in Lodi's five games in the Johansen Tournament on Modesto on Friday and Saturday, leading the Flames to a ninth-place finish in their first action of the season.
Lodi beat Beyer 12-3, lost to Turlock 13-8, fell to Oakdale 10-6, defeated Buhach Coloney 14-0 and topped Sonora 15-8.
Molly Briaa totaled 15 goals on the weekend, Nicole Haley scored five goals and Jessica Camper and Holly Mello added two goals apiece. Lodi goalie Jadin Kidson-Trigg made eight saves in the cage.

Marissa Hinchman led the Flames with a 3-over 39 on Monday at Bing Maloney Golf Course in Sacramento. Coby Kooymann shot a 47 for Lodi, Danielle Alrich carded a 52, Courtney Schmidt turned in a 54 and Brittany Range hit a 57. The Flames (2-1) will open up San Joaquin Athletic Association play today against Lincoln.

Fore-Tee Niners
Liza Kanemura recently won the Fore-Tee Niners Championship Tournament at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club. Kanemura earned the title of the nine-hole group by shooting a gross score of 145 in 29 holes.
The first flight winner was Marlene Weigum, Nikki Barr and Anne Weisenberg tied as winners of the second flight and the third flight winner was Meg McKenzie.

Dennis Swanson hit a hole-in-one at Woodbridge Country Club's Lake Course. Swanson used a hybrid club to ace the 140-yard seventh hole. Witnesses included Tom Keeslar and Fred Heberle.

Rhonda Yiamkis sunk a hole-in-one at Micke Grove Golf Course. On the fourth hole, Yiamkis hit her eight iron 100 yards for the ace. The shot was witnesses John Garcia and Frank Yiamkis.
Northern California Open
After one day of play in the three-day Northern California Open on Monday at El Macero Country Club in Davis, Lodi's Tony Troncale and Jeff Palmer finished in a tied for 62nd place. Both hit 6-over 78s. Play will continue today and Wednesday at El Macero and Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis.

Millers Hot Dog Meet
Lodi Swim Club swimmers Mary Griffith and Daniel Bowman both earned three victories at the Millers Hot Dog Meet on Saturday in Lodi. Swimmers from Lodi, Galt, Stockton, Roseville, Modesto and Ripon and other nearby towns competed in the meet, which was the second of two Miller Hot Dog meets of the season.
Griffith was the fastest in the girls 13 and over 100 freestyle (54.70), 200 individual medley (2:13.95) and the 100 butterfly (58.85).
Daniel Bowman placed first in the boys 13 and over division in the 100 fly (54.46), 100 free (50.15) and 100 backstroke (58.11). Devin Nishizaki took first in the 13 and over 100 breaststroke (1:05.80) and the 200 IM (2:02.86).
Lodi Swim Club
Fundraiser and signups
The Lodi Swim Club is doing a steak and oyster feed fundraiser on Sept. 26. The cost is $75, which includes a donation to the Lodi Swim Club. The event will be catered by Papapavlo's and will feature local Lodi wines. Participants will be offered a chance at a weekend in San Francisco.
The Lodi Swim Club is also taking signups. For more information on signups or for tickets to the fundraiser, call coach John Griffin at 368-8475.
