One injured, 15-year-old arrested after rear-ending grape harvester on Sunday

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for driving under the influence Sunday night after he rear-ended a grape harvester, injuring one of his passengers, in east Lodi.

The boy was driving a Lincoln Towncar at 8:09 p.m. on Hogan Lane, east of the Highway 99 frontage road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Though the harvester had flashing lights to warn motorists of its slow speed, the teen crashed into the farm vehicle, said CHP Officer Brian Hemenway. The teen then ran from the scene, and officers later found him nearby.

A 16-year-old boy was riding in the front passenger seat, and a medical helicopter was called because he initially appeared to have major injuries.

He was flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with injuries that were not life-threatening, Hemenway said. That teen also appeared to be intoxicated.

The driver of the harvester was not injured, and another passenger in the Lincoln was not injured, Hemenway said.

The 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run, driving without a license and driving without insurance. The CHP did not release his name because he is a minor.

" So he was a minor. Why can't you say "Mr So'n'so, a wealthy grape grower declined comment as to how an underage family member ended up driving his towncar." "

" Why in the hell is a 15 year old out driving, and beyond that, under the influence?

The responsible adults for this minor, eventually will be named, and ultimately held accountable. "

" All this talk about a "Lincoln Towncar" if it got 12 MPG and fit the criteria, a new car could have been had thanks to Cash for Clunkers, looks like mom and dad missed the boat in more ways than one, and now junior is in the system. "

" I agree with everything that has been posted, and now the biggest punishment that can be given to a teen-ager is, make this a duel punishment, no drivers licences till he reaches the rip old age of 21, and in the mean time, no Ipod, or any other video games, that will really hurt and not be forgotten, also leave moms car in the garage and mom and dad, lock the liquor cabinet. "

" It should read the 15 year old son of Mr and Mrs John Q. Public was arrested for rear ending a grape harvester and driving under the influence.

You can bet that once the parents names are reported that this most likely will not happen again. "
