You don't get something for nothing

Saturday, August 29, 2009 7:19 AM PDT

You interviewed some folks about "Nationalized" health care. The answers were appalling; I wager that more than half of your readers believe that Barack Obama is going to give us free health care. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Obama has nothing to give; we the taxpayers do. Almost half of the people in this country do not even pay income taxes. If you do, you are going to be paying for someone else's health care. Whoa, that's not free health care — yep, there "ain't" no free lunch.

What you will get is rationing, long wait lines, deferred treatment. If you are elderly, some bureaucrat will decide if your life is worth prolonging. Is that what you really want? That's a high price to pay for "fairness and compassion."

There are good things we should do to improve our health care system. Socialized medicine (government-run) is not one of those solutions. Trust not a savior promising something for nothing! You will pay dearly.

"Stella, your a slug. Someday You will be old, if not already and be damn glad the younger generation is picking up the tab to keep your old azz going and paying your bills."

Your missing the point the same way jerry misses the mark on this waste of ink LTE. While You and Jerry Osgood circle the drain on Medicare that is Government run "Nationalized" Health care, we the tax payer and reader of this hypocritical nonsense are left to wonder wtf? Why don't You tools take a stand and not except any of our socialized services such as the VA,Medicare and Social Security. Until then, I'm happy to bank roll You Guy's through your golden years with my tax dollors. "

I worked to pay the generation before me, now it`s the younger workers to keep me going, since some day they will be in the same position. If Obama has his way, the $10 bill will have his pic on it. Another frogjumping lie.
Why don't you quote what the President actually said. Good gosh you seem to be as deaf as Limbaugh. "

" Good letter Jerry. Unfortunately, a lot of folks actually do get something for nothing. All of our politicians, local, county, state and federal politicians have figured out many ways to get something for nothing. Lots of people have figured out how to get something for nothing. That's the problem. "

" You're absolutely right, Jerry. I'm going to quit paying my taxes so I can stop supporting those deadbeat elderly people on Medicare. Those old people don't even work! Why should I support them and pay for their medicine? "

What I really want is solutions to such fear-mongering; throw it out there and see where it'll land issues addressed in the reader's letter. If you don't like the way it is; at least provide an option for those of us who simply want to make a decision based on the facts and not rants of people who would rather spend their time PO'd about it but don't offer anything else. I don't have all the answers; Matter of fact, We are a small part of the choices our government will consider when the Healthcare Bill hits the table. All discontent and bickering will leave us blind-sided by the whole thing and we'll be left to check our own blood pressure because we were too ignorant to get off our duffs to do something about it after it gets signed into law. Shame on u LNS (again). Ur readers are hopefully smart enuff to sift thru the bias. "

" Well said, Jerry. Let's hope most Americans wake up to what is really happening regarding health care reform. It has nothing to do with reform, but everything to do with control and power over the people of this country. Is change needed? Yes. But not what the leaders of this country have in mind. We need much less government "taking care of us." Government has not been able to fix the troubles with programs they already control. Let's not agree to let them continue to run us into the ground with their so called "promises" of what they can and will do. Look at the history of what they have accomplished. I do not want more of that. I recently read a statement about politicians that I agree with - "If their mouths are moving, they are lying to you." Their stories change so often that it is embarrassing they think we are so stupid we cannot see what they are attempting to do. Wake up America before it is too late. "
