“I’m going to say ‘no’ off the top of my head. I don’t think people are using it the way the government intended them to.”
Ken Wiebe
Lodi
Sales representative
“Yeah, I think it is, because it’s one of the first I actually recognize as working.”
Tom Yearicks
Lodi
Retired
“I think it’s a good idea because it helps the economy. It helps union jobs.”
Joe Coy
Lodi
Union organizer
“It created a method to get people to buy cars. I think it’s a great idea. It got money moving instead of sitting in banks.”
Angel Chavez
Acampo

“Absolutely. They got a lot of cars that are not economical or are a hazard to the environment. Now they just need to figure out what to do with them.”

" I just wonder if they're going to track those who purchased these new cars for the "free" money they got from the government; how many of them will be repossessed because of their inability to pay for them? Oh, it would also be genuinely funny to see the faces of those upon realizing that the money they received is subject to taxation.

Could this just be another version of the mortgage debacle? Only time will tell if we're to be privy to that kind of data. "

" It seems to me billions of tax payer dollars were spent to benefit a few. This is certainly not socialism. I am anxious to see a good economist or forensic account evaluate this program. i will be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be a good spend. Please---someone do the math. "

" good? for who? dealers got stiffed. cannot sell cars that has a market. cannot part-out. clunkers were in pretty good shape in some cases. many not qualified because they were using GPM when car was orignally sold. toyota & nissan had 8 of top 10 sales. yeah, good idea, no, wait, great idea. "

" I think the Government should now SELL (not scrap) these trade-in cars & trucks to foreign buyers (they are ready and waiting) and recover a mountain of money for the US Taxpayer! "

" Yeah, great idea. First you bail out the car companies with our tax dollars then you make it easier for people that could probably afford to buy a car in the first place and give them a rebate with, again our tax dollars. If it would have been strictly for very economical cars it wouldn't have been as bad, but when you could buy a Hummer with that it was a shame. Obama Motors is alive and well, not so well. "

" Great idea ? How's this ? "N.M. dealers stiffed as clunkers pile up
Car sellers owed over $3.6 million – only 3 checks for $14,000 issued
--KRQE-TV, Albuquerque" "
