Taco Bell on Lodi Avenue being torn down, rebuilt
News-Sentinel Staff Writer
A Taco Bell, built by a father and son, which has stood at 608 W. Lodi Ave. for more than 20 years will be reduced to a pile of rubble this week.
In its place, a sleeker and more modern Taco Bell will be erected. Owner Dan Lewis said they are "building the latest and greatest Taco Bell in the system."
The decision to tear down the building he helped his father put up in 1989 was difficult to do and risky in this economy, but he said it's in line with Taco Bell's philosophy.
"Taco Bell is about bold choices," he said.
Dan's father Fred Lewis made Taco Bell a family affair after meeting Taco Bell founder Glen Bell at a trade show in Los Angeles and signing on with the franchise. Fred and his wife Jeanne opened their first Taco Bell in Salinas in 1966. They entered Lodi with the opening of the Taco Bell at Orange and Lodi avenues in March 1969.
